Remuneration and working hours for journalists have been fixed by an Act of Parliament, and pay scales can be not lower than:

Reporter Rs 1,500/-per month plus travel expenses.
Senior Reporter Rs 3,000/-per month plus travel expenses.
Chief Reporter Rs 4,000/-to Rs 5,000/- per month.
Sub-editor Rs 4,000/-to Rs 5,000/-per month.
Editor Rs 5,000/-to Rs 10,000/-plus perks.

Many newspapers give journalists an additional reading/paper allowance to enable them to subscribe to a number of publications and keep in touch with current developments.

Promotion

No formal system-dependent on individual achievement and organizational structure of publication.
