Though no formal training is required, individuals who are interested in taking up counseling as a career would do well to specialize. Most counselors have a background in psychology as this provides an insight into human behavior, which helps counselors to understand better the problems of their clients.

Institutions

A large number of institutions provide a post-graduate diploma in guidance and counseling. 

Eligibility

Candidates who have done a Master's degree in any area are eligible to apply for the diploma in counseling. Some institutions have a diploma course for which graduates are eligible.

Duration

The duration of the course varies between a year to two years.
